Easter Egger Started Pullet

Product Overview

The Easter Egger Started Pullet is a 15 to 22 week old female chicken that is close to laying age and ready to become a colorful, productive addition to your backyard flock. This is a great option for customers who want the fun of colorful eggs without raising day-old chicks.

Cackle Hatchery® offers Easter Egger Started Pullets as older female birds. Each pullet is priced at $46.00.

Shipping charges are:

1 bird: $230.00
2 birds: $275.00

These started pullets are vaccinated for Marek’s disease at no additional charge. They are fed non-GMO feed from day one, raised with human interaction to help reduce flightiness, and grown in large areas with other birds.

Why Choose Started Pullets?

Started pullets are ideal for customers who want female chickens that are already past the baby chick stage. Since these birds are 15 to 22 weeks old, they are much closer to laying age than day-old chicks.

They can be a strong choice if you want:

A 15 to 22 week old female chicken
A bird closer to laying age
A Marek’s vaccinated pullet
A bird fed non-GMO feed from day one
A pullet raised with human interaction
A less flighty backyard flock addition
A colorful egg layer
A fun, varied backyard chicken

Started pullets still need a safe transition period when they arrive. Provide clean water, proper feed, secure housing, predator protection, and time to settle into the flock.

Breed Overview and Background

The Easter Egger chicken traces its color-egg heritage to chickens from Chile in South America, originally connected with the Araucana Indians. However, customers should understand that Easter Eggers are not the same as pure Araucanas or pure Ameraucanas.

Cackle Hatchery® offers the Easter Egger chicken, not the Ameraucana or Araucana. Easter Eggers are loved for their colorful egg potential, wide variety of feather colors, full beards, tails, and backyard-friendly usefulness.

Cackle’s breeding program focuses on producing birds with varied feather colors, patterns, and feather combinations, along with colorful eggshells and good egg production.

Customers who want to compare day-old chicks can review Cackle Hatchery’s Easter Egger chicks listing.

Appearance and Characteristics

Easter Eggers come in a wide variety of feather colors and patterns. Unlike pure color breeds, they do not have one standard feather color or exact appearance.

Many Easter Eggers have a full beard under the beak, a tail, and a charming mixed-color look. Some may have different shades, markings, and feather combinations, which makes each bird feel unique in the flock.

Cackle does not offer a specific color variety for Easter Eggers. Instead, the breeding goal is wide feather-color variety and colorful egg production.

Colorful Egg Production

Easter Eggers are best known for colorful eggs. Their eggshell colors may vary from pale blue to dark blue, various shades of green, and occasionally light brownish or pinkish eggs.

Customers should understand that egg color can vary by individual pullet. A flock of Easter Eggers may produce a beautiful range of eggs, but one hen usually lays one general egg color throughout her laying life.

Because these started pullets are already 15 to 22 weeks old, they may begin laying sooner after arrival than day-old chicks, depending on age, season, daylight, nutrition, and individual development.

Customers interested in colorful eggs may also want to browse Cackle’s Colored Egg Layer Chickens category.

Easter Egger vs Araucana

Easter Eggers are often confused with Araucanas, but they are different.

Pure Araucana chickens are rumpless, meaning they are tailless, and they have small curling feather tufts near the ears. Araucanas also come in recognized color types.

Easter Eggers, by contrast, usually have a tail and a full beard under the beak rather than ear tufts. They do not come in pure color types, and Cackle Hatchery® sells Easter Eggers rather than pure Araucanas.

Another important distinction is that most Easter Eggers do not inherit the lethal alleles associated with some Araucana breeding lines.

Easter Egger vs Ameraucana

Easter Eggers are also different from Ameraucanas.

Pure Ameraucana chickens have tails, full beards, and recognized pure color types. Easter Eggers may have full beards and tails, but they are not bred to Ameraucana color standards and do not come in pure color varieties.

Choose Easter Eggers if you want a fun, varied backyard chicken with colorful egg potential and a broad range of feather colors. Choose Ameraucanas only if you specifically want a recognized Ameraucana breed variety from a breeder offering that breed.

This distinction is important because many customers search for Ameraucana or Araucana when they are actually looking for colorful egg layers like Easter Eggers.

Backyard, Coop, and Free-Range Use

Easter Eggers are great chickens for backyards, chicken coops, larger chicken houses, and free-range flocks. Their variety, egg color, and practical usefulness make them popular with families and hobby flock owners.

They are also a fun breed for customers who enjoy a little surprise in the flock. Feather colors can vary, and egg colors can vary from hen to hen.

These started pullets have had human interaction and have been raised in large areas with other birds, which can help them transition into a backyard flock when introduced carefully.

Meat Value

Although Easter Eggers are mostly chosen for colorful eggs and backyard enjoyment, the meat can also be used. The original product information notes that the meat is delicious and has a taste similar to quail.

Most customers choose this bird for egg color, personality, and flock variety rather than meat production. Customers wanting a heavier dual-purpose bird may prefer breeds such as Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, or Barred Rock.

Important Scissor Beak / Cross Beak Note

This breed has an inherent genetic beak issue that should be clearly disclosed. About 1 out of 100 chicks may develop some level of scissor beak or cross beak as they grow.

This condition occurs when the top and bottom beak do not align correctly. The severity can vary, and the issue may become more noticeable or worsen as the bird grows.

Customers should understand this possibility before ordering Easter Eggers. There are many articles and resources available about managing cross beak chickens, but this genetic risk should remain visible on the product page.

Easter Egger Started Pullet vs Day-Old Chicks

Choose a started pullet if you want an older female bird that is closer to laying age and already past the brooder stage.

Choose day-old Easter Egger chicks if you want a lower starting price, more order flexibility, or the experience of raising chicks from the beginning.

Started pullets are especially helpful for customers who want colorful eggs sooner and do not want to manage heat lamps, brooders, and early chick care.

Easter Egger vs Olive Egger

Easter Eggers and Olive Egger chickens are both colorful egg layers, but they are not the same.

Choose Easter Eggers if you want a wider range of possible egg colors, including blue, green, and sometimes light brownish or pinkish tones. Choose Olive Eggers if you specifically want hens bred for olive-colored eggs.

Both are fun for backyard egg baskets, and many customers enjoy keeping both in the same flock.

Started Pullet Guarantee and Refund Note

Customers should review Cackle Hatchery’s Chicken Guarantees and Policies page before ordering started pullets.

Because started pullets are live juvenile birds, customers should be ready to receive them promptly and move them into safe, prepared housing. Provide water immediately, keep the environment calm, and allow time for the birds to adjust after shipping.
