Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Started Pullet

Product Overview

The Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Started Pullet is a 15 to 22 week old female chicken that is close to laying age and ready to become a beautiful addition to your backyard flock. This is a great option for customers who want a docile, attractive brown egg layer without raising day-old chicks.

Cackle Hatchery® offers Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Started Pullets as older female birds. Each pullet is priced at $46.00, with a maximum of 2 per order only. Cackle’s started pullet listing confirms this product is a 15 to 22 week old female chicken and references the 2014 name change from Silver Laced Wyandotte to Black Laced Silver Wyandotte.

Shipping and handling charges are:

1 bird: $231.00
2 birds: $276.00

These started pullets are vaccinated for Marek’s disease at no additional charge. They are fed non-GMO feed from day one, raised with human interaction to help reduce flightiness, and grown in large areas with other birds.

Why Choose Started Pullets?

Started pullets are ideal for customers who want female chickens already past the baby chick stage. Since these birds are 15 to 22 weeks old, they are much closer to laying age than day-old chicks.

They can be a strong choice if you want:

A 15 to 22 week old female chicken
A bird closer to laying age
A Marek’s vaccinated pullet
A bird fed non-GMO feed from day one
A pullet raised with human interaction
A less flighty backyard flock addition
A docile brown egg layer
A beautiful black-laced silver chicken

Started pullets still need a safe transition period when they arrive. Provide clean water, proper feed, secure housing, predator protection, and time to settle into the flock.

Breed Overview and Origin

The Black Laced Silver Wyandotte was admitted to the American Standard of Perfection in 1883. This variety originated in New York State and is the parent variety of all other Wyandotte varieties.

Wyandottes are classic American chickens known for beauty, hardiness, useful egg production, and backyard value. The Black Laced Silver variety is especially popular because of its striking contrast between silvery white feathers and black lacing.

Cackle Hatchery® offers the production type/line Black Laced Silver Wyandotte for this started pullet product, not the show type.

Appearance and Characteristics

Black Laced Silver Wyandottes have mostly silvery white feathers edged with black lacing, along with a black tail. This pattern gives them a clean, ornamental look that stands out in a mixed backyard flock.

They have clean legs, a red rose comb, red earlobes, and red wattles. The rose comb is especially helpful in colder climates because it is smaller and closer to the head than a large single comb.

Cackle’s Black Laced Silver Wyandotte chick listing describes the variety as a beautiful, docile brown egg layer with striking silver feathers and black lacing.

Egg Production and Backyard Value

Black Laced Silver Wyandottes are practical backyard chickens as well as beautiful flock birds. They lay brown eggs and work well for customers who want a calm, attractive bird with good utility.

Since these started pullets are 15 to 22 weeks old, they may begin laying sooner after arrival than day-old chicks, depending on age, season, daylight, nutrition, stress, and individual development.

Customers comparing brown egg layers can browse Cackle’s Brown Egg Layer Chickens category. For customers in colder climates, Cackle also lists Black Laced Silver Wyandottes among its Cold Weather Chickens options.

Temperament, Broodiness, and Mothering Ability

Black Laced Silver Wyandottes are docile birds, making them a good choice for many backyard flocks. They can work well in family settings, small farms, and mixed flocks when introduced properly.

They will occasionally go broody and can make excellent mothers. Broodiness can be helpful for customers who want natural chick-raising behavior, but it may temporarily reduce egg collection while a hen is sitting.

These started pullets have had human interaction and have been raised in large areas with other birds, which can help them adjust to backyard flock life when handled calmly and given enough space.

Confinement and Free-Range Use

Black Laced Silver Wyandottes work well in confinement or free range. This makes them flexible for several flock setups, including backyard coops, chicken runs, larger poultry houses, and free-range systems.

In confinement, provide enough room, ventilation, clean bedding, and access to feed and water. In free-range settings, offer secure nighttime housing and predator protection.

Because of their combination of beauty, usefulness, and docile temperament, they make a great backyard chicken for customers who want more than just egg production.

Name Note: Silver Laced Wyandotte vs Black Laced Silver Wyandotte

Cackle Hatchery® started using the name Black Laced Silver Wyandotte in 2014 to make the color description clearer. With varieties such as Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and other laced Wyandotte colors becoming more popular, the full descriptive name helps reduce confusion.

So, the bird many customers know as the Silver Laced Wyandotte is now called Black Laced Silver Wyandotte by Cackle Hatchery®. Cackle repeats this naming note on its Black Laced Silver Wyandotte hatching eggs listing.

Production Type vs Exhibition Type

Cackle Hatchery® offers this started pullet product as its production type/line, not the show type.

Choose this started pullet if you want an older female bird for backyard eggs, beauty, hardiness, and flock enjoyment. Choose Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Exhibition/Show Type chicks if your main goal is a show-type bird raised from the chick stage. Cackle’s exhibition listing notes that Cackle has been developing its pure exhibition-type Silver Laced Wyandotte bloodline since 2015.

Production type birds are generally selected more for practical flock performance, while exhibition type birds are selected more heavily for show traits and breed type.

Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Started Pullet vs Day-Old Chicks

Choose a started pullet if you want an older female bird that is closer to laying age and already past the brooder stage.

Choose day-old Black Laced Silver Wyandotte chicks if you want a lower starting price, more order flexibility, or the experience of raising chicks from the beginning. Cackle’s chick listing describes the variety as a docile brown egg layer with silver feathers and black lacing.

Started pullets are especially helpful for customers who want older female birds and do not want to manage heat lamps, brooders, and early chick care.

Hatching Eggs Option

At limited times of the year, Cackle Hatchery® offers non-show type Black Laced Silver Wyandotte Fertile Hatching Eggs for customers who want to incubate and hatch this variety at home. The hatching egg listing also includes Cackle’s note about the name change from Silver Laced Wyandotte to Black Laced Silver Wyandotte.

Hatching eggs are a different experience than ordering started pullets. Started pullets are older female birds, while hatching eggs require an incubator or broody hen, proper temperature and humidity, and chick brooding after hatch.

Started Pullet Guarantee and Refund Note

Cackle Hatchery® does not offer reshipments for these birds. Only a refund of the bird cost is offered under the started pullet policy.

Customers should review Cackle Hatchery’s Chicken Guarantees and Policies page before ordering started pullets. Because these are live juvenile birds, customers should be ready to receive them promptly and move them into safe, prepared housing.
