Surplus Rare Turkey Special
Product Overview
The Surplus Rare Turkey Special is a hatchery choice assortment of rare heritage turkey poults from Cackle Hatchery®. This special is a great option for customers who want to raise heritage turkeys, save money, and enjoy the surprise of receiving Cackle’s choice from available rare turkey breeds.
This assortment may include any of the following rare heritage turkey varieties: Bourbon Red Turkey, Royal Palm Turkey, Blue Slate Turkey, Black Slate Turkey, Narragansett Turkey, Bronze Heritage Standard Turkey, or Black Spanish Turkey. Cackle’s product page confirms this is a hatchery choice of rare heritage breed turkeys and may include those listed varieties.
Hatchery choice means the poults are selected from rare heritage turkey varieties that have not been sold as specific breeds. This is not a guaranteed mixed assortment. It is possible to receive all of one kind.
Important Hatchery Choice Notice
This product should be very clear for customers before they order:
Sorry, we do not tell you what color type or breed we sent with this package, and we do not keep records of what breeds are sent.
That sentence should remain on the product page because it helps set accurate expectations. Customers ordering this special should be comfortable receiving Cackle Hatchery® choice and should not expect breed identification, color identification, or a guaranteed variety.
If a customer wants a specific turkey breed, they should order that breed directly instead of choosing the Surplus Rare Turkey Special.
What Breeds May Be Included?
This rare turkey assortment may include any of the following Cackle Hatchery® heritage varieties:
Bourbon Red Turkey
Royal Palm Turkey
Blue Slate Turkey
Black Slate Turkey
Narragansett Turkey
Bronze Heritage Standard Turkey
Black Spanish Turkey
These heritage turkeys are useful for customers interested in backyard flocks, homesteads, farm projects, exhibition, meat, and traditional poultry. Cackle’s Turkey Breeds List Comparison Chart lists many of these rare varieties as active birds used for egg laying, meat, and exhibition, with suggested heritage turkey mating ratios of 7 females to 1 male and roost height of 2+ feet.
Surplus Rare Turkey Special vs Ordering a Specific Breed
This special is best for customers who want rare heritage turkeys at a value price and are flexible about breed or color.
Choose the Surplus Rare Turkey Special if you:
Want Cackle Hatchery® choice rare turkey poults
Are flexible on breed and color
Do not need breed identification
Understand that no variety is guaranteed
Are comfortable receiving all of one kind
Want a budget-friendly way to raise rare heritage turkeys
Like the surprise of a hatchery choice poultry order
Order a specific breed instead if you:
Need Bourbon Red, Royal Palm, Blue Slate, Black Slate, Narragansett, Bronze Heritage Standard, or Black Spanish poults
Want to know exactly which breed you are receiving
Need specific breeding stock by variety
Want a particular plumage color
Need records for a breeding or exhibition project
This distinction is important because Cackle does not keep records of which turkey breeds are sent with this package.
Heritage Turkey Value
The possible breeds in this assortment are rare heritage turkey varieties. Heritage turkeys are often preferred by homesteaders and small farms because they are active, traditional birds that can be used for meat, seasonal eggs, exhibition, and breeding projects.
Customers can browse Cackle’s full Heritage Turkeys category to compare the individual breeds. Cackle’s general Turkeys for Sale page is also helpful for customers deciding between heritage turkeys, broad breasted turkeys, and turkey bargain specials.
Because this assortment may include several different heritage varieties, it can be a fun and affordable way to start a rare turkey flock when exact breed selection is not required.
Backyard, Farm, and Homestead Use
Rare heritage turkey poults from this special can be a good fit for backyard flocks, small farms, and homesteads. Depending on the variety received, customers may raise them for meat, exhibition, seasonal eggs, breeding projects, or general farm enjoyment.
Since this is hatchery choice, customers should plan for general heritage turkey care rather than breed-specific management. Provide a warm brooder for poults, proper turkey starter feed, clean water, dry bedding, predator protection, and enough space as they grow.
Cackle’s Turkey Bargain Specials category explains that hatchery choice turkey specials can be a way to save money compared with buying by specific breed.
Brooding Turkey Poults
Turkey poults need careful early care. They can be more sensitive than chicks, especially during the first few days after arrival.
Customers should prepare the brooder before the poults arrive. Use the correct brooder temperature, dry bedding, fresh water, and a proper turkey starter feed. Cackle’s care information includes a baby turkey and peafowl section under its Chicken Care Instructions page.
Helpful Cackle resources for new turkey keepers include Starve-Out in Turkey Poults and How to Brood Turkey Poults.
Keeping Turkeys With Chickens
Many customers who buy turkey poults already have chickens. Turkeys and chickens may be raised together in some backyard settings, but customers should understand the risks before mixing poultry species.
Cackle’s blog Keeping Turkeys With Chickens explains that conventional advice warns against keeping turkeys with chickens because turkeys are susceptible to blackhead disease, although many backyard poultry keepers do raise them together successfully.
For customers raising heritage turkeys on land where chickens have lived, this is one of the most important care links to include.
Shipping Note
Cackle Hatchery® cannot ship turkeys to Hawaii. Keep this notice clear on the product page so customers can check shipping eligibility before ordering.
The product is sold as one-day-old baby poults, with no sexing available, and is seasonal. Cackle’s feed result for the Turkey Bargain Specials category lists the Surplus Rare Turkey Special as shipped April through late July and notes that the total order requires any 3 birds to ship.
Customers should check the Surplus Rare Turkey Special product page and Cackle’s Availability Chart before ordering. Cackle notes that the availability chart updates frequently and may change as egg numbers become more accurate.
