Red Sex Link Started Pullet

Product Overview

The Red Sex Link Started Pullet is a 15 to 22 week old female chicken that is close to laying age and ready to become a productive addition to your backyard flock. This is a strong choice for customers who want dependable brown egg layers without raising day-old chicks.

Cackle Hatchery® offers Red Sex Link Started Pullets as older female birds. Each pullet is priced at $46.00, with a maximum of 2 per order only.

Shipping and handling charges are:

1 bird: $231.00
2 birds: $276.00

These started pullets are vaccinated for Marek’s disease at no additional charge. They are never fed GMO feed, starting from day one. They also have human interaction early in life, which helps make them less flighty, and they are raised in large areas with other birds.

Cackle’s grown fowl category confirms that started pullets are 15 to 22 weeks old and vaccinated for Marek’s disease at no additional cost.

Why Choose Started Pullets?

Started pullets are ideal for customers who want female chickens that are already past the baby chick stage. Since these birds are 15 to 22 weeks old, they are much closer to laying age than day-old chicks.

They can be a strong choice if you want:

A 15 to 22 week old female chicken
A bird closer to laying age
A Marek’s vaccinated pullet
A bird never fed GMO feed
A pullet raised with early human interaction
A less flighty backyard flock addition
A productive brown egg layer
A hardy hybrid chicken for backyard coops, larger houses, chicken tractors, or free range

Started pullets still need a safe transition period when they arrive. Provide clean water, proper feed, secure housing, predator protection, and time to settle into the flock.

Breed Overview and Hybrid Background

Red Sex Link chickens are hybrid birds bred for vigor, health, and dependable egg production. Cackle Hatchery® produces this hybrid by crossing one of its best Rhode Island Red rooster production bloodlines with one of its best Delaware hen production bloodlines. The result is a color-sexed chick that is easy to identify early and grows into a practical backyard layer.

This hybrid is made from two heritage chicken breeds with long histories of egg production. However, the Red Sex Link itself is a hybrid rather than a pure heritage breed. That makes it a practical choice for customers who want performance, egg output, and easy management rather than a breed intended for exhibition or purebred breeding.

Customers who want to raise this hybrid from the beginning can compare Cackle’s Red Sex Link chicks.

Appearance and Characteristics

Red Sex Link pullets are shades of red, while cockerels are shades of lighter colors. This color difference is what makes the cross useful for early chick identification.

Mature hens are attractive reddish-brown birds and may show a few white feathers. Cackle’s sex-link hybrid blog notes that Red Sex Link hens have reddish-brown plumage set off by a few white feathers and are excellent for free ranging.

These started pullets have already been raised with other birds, which can help them transition into backyard flock life when introduced carefully.

Egg Production and Backyard Value

Red Sex Link chickens are bred for dependable brown egg production. They are a great choice for customers who want practical laying hens for a backyard coop, larger chicken house, tractor pen, or free-range setup.

Cackle’s sex-link hybrid blog says Red Sex Link hens lay large brown eggs and may produce between 200 and 280 eggs per year. The same blog notes that hens may mature to 6 or 7 pounds, while roosters may reach 8 or 9 pounds.

Since these started pullets are already 15 to 22 weeks old, they may begin laying sooner after arrival than day-old chicks, depending on their age, season, daylight, nutrition, and individual development.

Customers comparing productive layers can browse Cackle’s Brown Egg Layer Chickens and Egg Laying Chickens categories.

Temperament and Ease of Care

Red Sex Link chickens are popular because they are practical, productive, and easy to manage. Their hybrid vigor can make them a strong choice for beginners and experienced poultry keepers alike.

These started pullets have had early human interaction, which helps make them less flighty. They have also been raised in large areas with other birds, making them a good addition to a backyard flock when introduced properly.

As with any new pullet, customers should introduce them slowly, provide enough feeder and waterer space, and watch flock behavior while the pecking order adjusts.

Coop, Tractor Pen, and Free-Range Use

Red Sex Link chickens are well suited for small chicken coops, larger chicken houses, tractor chicken pens, and free-range chicken farming.

They are especially useful for customers who want a flexible laying breed that can work in several flock setups. In a small coop, provide enough space and ventilation. In a tractor pen, move the pen regularly so birds have fresh ground. In a free-range setup, provide safe nighttime housing and predator protection.

These birds are a strong fit for customers who want eggs, activity, and a hardy backyard layer.

Red Sex Link Started Pullet vs Day-Old Chicks

Choose a started pullet if you want an older female bird that is closer to laying age and already past the brooder stage.

Choose day-old Red Sex Link chicks if you want a lower starting price, more order flexibility, or the experience of raising chicks from the beginning. Cackle’s Red Sex Link chick page describes the breed as a hardy hybrid layer that is easy to sex as chicks and lays large brown eggs.

Started pullets are especially helpful for customers who want eggs sooner and do not want to manage heat lamps, brooders, and early chick care.

Red Sex Link vs Black Sex Link

Red Sex Links and Black Sex Link chickens are both hybrid brown egg layers bred for practical production.

Choose Red Sex Link if you want a red hybrid layer produced from Rhode Island Red and Delaware bloodlines. Choose Black Sex Link if you prefer a mostly black hen with red neck highlights and a Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock background.

Customers interested in older female birds may also compare Black Sex Link Started Pullets.

Red Sex Link vs Rhode Island Red and Delaware

The Red Sex Link is created from Rhode Island Red and Delaware bloodlines, but it is not the same as either parent breed.

Choose Red Sex Link if your main goal is hybrid egg production, color-sexed chicks, and practical backyard laying performance. Choose Rhode Island Red chickens or Delaware chickens if you want pure heritage breed options.

Both parent breeds are valuable in their own right, but the Red Sex Link is designed as a first-generation production hybrid.
