Color Yield
Color Yield
Product Overview
The Color Yield Freedom Ranger is a faster-growing red broiler created by crossing a standard RedBro female with a faster-growing Color Yield male. This cross produces a practical meat bird with the pasture-broiler appeal of the Freedom Ranger family and a faster grow-out timeline than standard Freedom Rangers.
Color Yield Rangers are especially useful for customers who want a red broiler that processes more cleanly. Their white underlying feathers make the finished bird look nicer after processing compared with darker-feathered broilers.
Appearance and Characteristics
Color Yield Rangers are red broilers with a lighter feather base. Cackle notes that its Color Yields will be mostly white with amber on the feather tips. This gives them a light, attractive appearance while still keeping the red-broiler family identity.
Expected traits include:
- Standard RedBro female x faster-growing Color Yield male parentage
- Faster growth than standard Freedom Rangers
- Red broiler background
- Mostly white feathers with amber feather tips
- White underlying feathers
- Cleaner processing appearance
- Straight run only
- Pasture-broiler usefulness
- Meat-production focus
- Strong alternative to standard Freedom Rangers
Because these birds are broilers, customers should choose them for meat production, processing quality, and grow-out performance rather than egg production or exhibition use.
Growth Rate and Processing Advantage
Color Yield Rangers should reach processing weight approximately one week faster than standard Freedom Rangers. Freedom Ranger Hatchery lists Color Yield as reaching processing weight one week faster than standard Freedom Rangers, with a general 8 to 10 week timeline for processing weight.
This faster timeline can help customers who want:
- A shorter grow-out period
- A pasture-friendly broiler
- A faster red broiler option
- A meat bird with cleaner processing appearance
- A practical alternative to standard Freedom Rangers
- A broiler that still keeps more outdoor usefulness than fast commercial meat birds
Actual growth depends on feed, water, brooder conditions, temperature, flock density, health, and management. Freedom Ranger Hatchery’s performance objectives also note that performance goals depend on nutrition, management, health, flock density, environment, weather, and other conditions.
White Underlying Feathers for Processing
One of the biggest advantages of the Color Yield Freedom Ranger is its white underlying feathering. Darker broilers can leave more visible pin feathers during processing. By contrast, the Color Yield’s lighter feather base helps create a cleaner-looking carcass.
This makes Color Yield Rangers appealing for:
- Homestead meat production
- Small farm processing
- Pasture poultry growers
- Customers who prefer cleaner-looking finished birds
- Growers who like red broilers but want lighter processing results
The Color Yield offers a useful balance: it keeps the red-broiler grow-out style while improving processing appearance through lighter under-feathering.
Straight Run Only
Color Yield Rangers are currently available straight run only. This means customers should expect a mix of males and females.
Straight run orders work well for meat-bird projects because both males and females can be raised for processing. However, males may grow faster and larger than females, so some size variation at harvest is normal.
Customers who need only males or only females should choose a different broiler option if sexed availability matters.
Color Yield vs Standard Freedom Rangers™
Color Yield Rangers and standard Freedom Rangers™ both belong in the pasture-broiler category, but they differ in growth rate and processing appearance.
A Color Yield Freedom Ranger grows about one week faster than a standard Freedom Ranger and has white underlying feathers that improve the processed appearance.
A standard Freedom Ranger™ grows to about 5 to 6 pounds in 9 to 12 weeks and works well in free-range, foraging, and pasture environments.
Choose Color Yield Rangers if you want a faster-growing red broiler with a cleaner processing finish.
Choose standard Freedom Rangers™ if you want the classic moderate-growth pasture broiler.
Color Yield vs Jumbo Cornish Cross
Color Yield Rangers and Jumbo Cornish Cross chickens both serve meat-production goals, but they fit different systems.
A Color Yield Freedom Ranger is a faster-growing red broiler with white underlying feathers and pasture-broiler appeal.
A Jumbo Cornish Cross chicken is a fast-growing commercial-style broiler bred for rapid meat production, broad breast development, and efficient feed conversion.
Choose Color Yield Rangers if you want a red broiler with improved processing appearance and a more pasture-friendly profile than Cornish Cross.
Choose Jumbo Cornish Cross if you want the fastest-growing traditional meat broiler.
Color Yield vs Kosher King
Color Yield Rangers and Kosher Kings both offer alternatives to standard fast-growing white broilers.
A Color Yield Freedom Ranger grows faster than a standard Freedom Ranger and has white underlying feathers for cleaner processing.
A Kosher King chicken comes from heritage breeds such as Barred Rock and Sussex. Kosher Kings are excellent foragers and are closely related to Freedom Rangers in growth rate, body conformation, and personality.
Choose Color Yield Rangers if cleaner processing appearance and faster growth matter most.
Choose Kosher Kings if you want a heritage-style foraging broiler with mostly barred plumage.
Is the Color Yield Freedom Ranger Right for Your Flock?
Choose Color Yield Freedom Rangers if you want:
- A faster-growing red broiler
- A RedBro female x Color Yield male cross
- A bird that grows about one week faster than standard Freedom Rangers
- Mostly white feathers with amber feather tips
- White underlying feathers for cleaner processing
- A practical meat bird for homesteads and small farms
- A pasture-broiler style chicken
- Straight-run broiler chicks
- A strong alternative to standard Freedom Rangers
However, consider another broiler if you need sexed chicks, classic standard Freedom Rangers, the fastest commercial-style broiler, or a bird that breeds true. In short, Color Yield Rangers are best for customers who want a faster red broiler with a cleaner processing appearance and strong meat-production value.
Care and Housing Tips
Color Yield Rangers need a strong brooder setup, balanced nutrition, clean water, and enough space to grow. Since they grow faster than standard Freedom Rangers, good early management matters.
For best results, provide:
- A warm brooder before chicks arrive
- Clean, dry bedding
- Fresh water at all times
- Balanced broiler feed
- Enough feeder and waterer space
- Good ventilation without drafts
- Predator-resistant housing
- Outdoor access when birds are ready
- Shade during hot weather
- Dry shelter during wet weather
- Room to move and forage
- A clear processing timeline
- Extra monitoring as birds approach harvest weight
Because Color Yield Rangers grow quickly, customers should plan feed, freezer space, processing date, and grow-out housing before chicks arrive.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be final 3 weeks prior to the ship date.
