Burlap
Burlap Sheets
Cackle Hatchery® now offers Burlap Sheets for customers who want a simple, natural bedding option for newly hatched poultry. Each pack includes 25 pieces of burlap, with each sheet measuring approximately 28 inches x 28 inches.
These burlap sheets can be used as a substitute natural bedding material for 1–10 day old poultry. They are easy to place in the brooder and simple to change when soiled.
Instead of stirring up loose bedding or trying to clean around tiny chicks, customers can remove the soiled burlap and replace it with a clean sheet.
What Comes in the Pack?
Each Burlap pack includes:
25 burlap sheets
Each sheet measures approximately 28” x 28”
Natural bedding substitute
Designed for 1–10 day old poultry
Easy replacement when soiled
This product is especially helpful during the first few days when baby poultry need clean footing, warmth, and a well-managed brooder.
Why Use Burlap for Baby Poultry?
Burlap can help provide a natural surface for young poultry during the early brooder stage. It gives small chicks or other baby poultry a surface to stand, walk, and rest on while keeping brooder cleanup simple.
Because the sheets are easy to replace, customers can keep the brooder cleaner with less disruption to the birds.
Burlap may be used for:
Baby chicks
Ducklings
Goslings
Turkey poults
Gamebird chicks
Other young poultry during the first 1–10 days
Always match your brooder setup to the species you are raising and monitor birds closely.
Easy Bedding Changes
One of the biggest benefits of these burlap sheets is convenience. When a sheet becomes soiled, remove it and replace it with a clean one.
This helps customers keep the brooder fresh during the critical first days after hatch or arrival.
A clean brooder helps support:
Better footing
Cleaner resting areas
Less mess
Easier daily care
A more comfortable brooder setup
Simple bedding replacement
Good brooder management still matters. Customers should continue checking temperature, feed, water, dryness, and chick behavior throughout the day.
Best Age Range
These burlap sheets are intended for 1–10 day old poultry.
During this early stage, young birds are small, delicate, and still learning to move, eat, drink, and settle into the brooder. A clean, steady surface can be helpful while they gain strength and confidence.
As poultry grow, customers may need to transition to other bedding options that better match the birds’ size, activity level, and brooder setup.
Brooder Use Tips
For best results, place the burlap sheet flat in the brooder so the birds can move across it easily.
Use burlap with a complete brooder setup that includes:
A safe heat source
Clean drinking water
Proper starter feed
A secure brooder
Protection from drafts
Dry bedding management
Room to move away from heat
Protection from pets and predators
Replace soiled burlap with a clean sheet as needed. Also, keep feed and water areas managed carefully because young poultry can spill water and soil bedding quickly.
Important Brooder Reminder
Burlap is a bedding substitute, not a replacement for proper brooder care. Young poultry still need the correct temperature, fresh water, quality feed, space, and close monitoring.
Check your birds often. If they are crowding under the heat source, they may be too cold. If they are moving far away from the heat and panting, they may be too warm. Their behavior tells you a lot about brooder comfort.
