Product Overview
The Assorted Peafowl Chicks package from Cackle Hatchery® is a hatchery choice assortment of straight-run peafowl chicks. This product is ideal for customers who want to raise peafowl and are flexible on color and sex.
Cackle Hatchery® offers Assorted Peafowl Chicks as hatchery choice, meaning there is no choice of color or sex. Cackle will try to give the best assortment possible at the time of shipment, but color variety is not guaranteed. The product page lists assorted peafowl chicks as available for order June through August.
This is an exciting option for customers who enjoy the surprise of a hatchery choice order. However, it is not the right choice for customers who need a specific peafowl color, pattern, sex, or breeding pair.
Important Hatchery Choice Notice
This product should be very clear before customers order:
Sorry, we do not tell you what color we sent with this package, and we do not keep records of what breeds are sent.
Cackle Hatchery® sells this product as hatchery choice only. That means customers should not expect color identification, sex identification, breed records, or a guaranteed assortment. It is possible to receive one type or a mix, depending on what is available at the time of shipment.
Customers who need a specific color or variety should choose a specific peafowl listing instead of this assorted package.
Important Guarantee Notice
Cackle Hatchery® does not offer any guarantee, replacement, or refund on shipments of peafowl chicks.
Because peafowl chicks require special handling and careful early management, this policy should remain visible on the product page. Customers should prepare the brooder, feed, water, and housing before the chicks arrive.
Cackle also sends Hatchery Choice female baby chicks with peafowl orders to help teach the peafowl chicks how to eat and drink and to provide extra warmth during shipment.

Cackle’s blog Peafowl Varieties — Which is Which? explains that what customers receive in the peafowl assortment depends on what is available at the time. The blog also explains the difference between peafowl color and pattern, which is helpful for customers trying to understand peafowl variety names.
Peafowl Terminology: Peacock, Peahen, and Peachick
Customers often use “peacock” to describe all peafowl, but the terms are different.
A peacock is the male.
A peahen is the female.
A peachick is the young chick.
Peafowl refers to the species overall.
The peacock grows the long train of feathers that can be lifted into a fan during courtship. The peahen does not have the long train.
This distinction helps customers understand why this product is sold as straight run. Young peafowl are not offered as sexed chicks in this assortment.
Appearance and Ornamental Value
Peafowl are known around the world for their beauty. The male’s long train, colorful body, and dramatic courtship display make peafowl one of the most recognizable ornamental birds.
The peacock is also the national bird of India. India Blue Peafowl are especially well known, but other color and pattern varieties can add even more interest to a farm, estate, homestead, or ornamental bird collection.
Cackle’s Peafowl for Sale category lists assorted peafowl chicks and notes that Cackle has been a leading peafowl egg hatchery since 1936, with chicks available from June through August.
Foraging, Roosting, and Farm Behavior
Peafowl are good foragers on the ground. They enjoy ranging, searching for food, and exploring open areas. However, they also like to fly up into high trees to roost, so customers should plan housing and property management carefully.
They are hardy and relatively easy to keep when given the right setup. Peafowl eat about the same feed as pheasants, and young peachicks need careful brooder management until they are strong enough to stay warm on their own.
Cackle’s 6 Tips for Raising Peafowl recommends housing peachicks in a brooder until they grow enough to stay warm on their own. The same resource is a strong internal care link for customers ordering peachicks.
Loud Calls and Neighbor Considerations
Peafowl are beautiful, but they are not quiet birds. Some people enjoy the loud call of the male, while others may find it scary, startling, or disruptive. Neighbors have been known to complain.
This is one of the most important customer expectation points for peafowl. They are best suited for customers who have enough space, understand their noise level, and are allowed to keep them under local rules or neighborhood restrictions.
Cackle’s 6 Pros and 6 Cons of Raising Peafowl is a helpful internal link for customers deciding whether peafowl are right for their property.
Maturity and Egg Laying
Peafowl are slow to mature. Peahens generally start laying around 2 years of age, so customers should not expect fast egg production.
Egg production is limited compared with chickens. Cackle’s product information lists peafowl as ornamental birds that produce buff to white eggs, with poor egg production at about 3 to 28 eggs per year starting in March.
Customers should choose assorted peafowl mainly for ornamental value, farm presence, and the enjoyment of raising unique birds rather than for egg production.
Assorted Peafowl Chicks vs Specific Peafowl Varieties
The assorted package is best for customers who are flexible. It is not best for customers who need a specific color, pattern, sex, or pair.
Choose Assorted Peafowl Chicks if you:
Want hatchery choice peachicks
Are flexible on color and sex
Understand no color guarantee is offered
